Trump Reaffirms Commitment to 2A in Latest Piers Morgan Interview

The pro-gun community wasn’t sure what to expect from the 45th President of the United States before he took office. While Donald Trump’s sons had voiced strong support for the Second Amendment, the former New York City Democrat didn’t have a long-term history of similar commitments.

But Trump has largely put those fears to rest, the latest example coming from an interview with British TV personality Piers Morgan.

Morgan, who was famously decimated by Ben Shapiro for his views on firearms, asked the President what was being done to stop firearm-related mass murders in the U.S.

Piers referred specifically to an incident that occurred last week in Kentucky in which a 15-year-old high school student killed two of his classmates and injured more than 18 others. He also noted that accused Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock bought 55 guns legally prior to the October shooting that killed 58 people.

Trump responded by pointing out the simple fact that guns don’t kill people on their own. Someone—usually a sick person—has to pull the trigger.

“Well, we do have gun control laws and this sick person –- he was a sicko. I mean that’s the big problem –- they’re sick people,” Trump said. “If he didn’t have a gun, he would have had a bomb, or would have something else.”

But Morgan wasn’t satisfied. He repeated that Paddock had bought 55 guns, to which Trump, responded, “The point is, he would have had 55 bombs. He would have had 55 of something else.”

Trump explained, essentially, that bad guys with guns can only be stopped by good guys with guns and arming more law-abiding citizens could help prevent the next mass murder.

“I’m a Second Amendment person. I think you need it for security,” Trump said. “You’ve had so many attacks, where there was only a gun – a bad person’s gun – going in this direction and if you had one on the other side. In fact, that’s a very big example. And if they had the bullets going in the opposite direction, you would have saved a lot of lives.”

Trump’s interview with Morgan was conducted for the British broadcasting company ITV. It is the first interview the President given to an international broadcaster since he became President. It was filmed in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum last week .

Yes, a lot of truth from all of you commenters, couldn’t actually have said it any better myself. Proud to be on the same side with you intelligent, articulate and caring souls. I think we’re all still looking for that “miracle”, “silver bullet” (pun intended) solution to end this growing trend of anti-2A activities and ill-placed sentiments of the “no guns is good guns” ultra left liberal, social do-gooders.

I also read with great hope the current gunsamerica.com issue article about the proactive involvement of women and girl’s, especially mothers and daughters, partaking of available CCW education and training. Their presence, more importantly the numbers of women who are attending and choosing this path of self-reliance in their self-protection, gave me a glimmer of hope and spurned a great lightbulb event in my mind as I absorbed more and more of the contents of that article. Here, we have a group of like-minded American females joining together and crossing the lines in one of the most controvercial and hotly debated subjects of our time. They are seeking instruction in an obvious pro-gun activity in spite of all the recent media attention/propaganda designed to frighten the public away from choosing a pro-gun stance. Which to me means the lawfull, life sustaining possession and personal use of firearms intended for one’s continued health and wellbeing. All that this stance entails is completely legal and lawful under their Constitutional rights as provided in the 2nd Amendment. That this stance be viewed unpopular by too large a number of firearm ignorant members of society is a testament to the existance and effectiveness of a concerted effort to deprieve our society as a whole, any protection from potential harm, by known and unknown enemies of freedom and liberty both foreign and domestic, in government and amongst the people. This trend cannot and must not continue. In order to stem the tide of opposing forces we need to find a most potent weapon from amongst the free and liberty loving patriots of our country. Weapons of truth are required to succeed and achieve set goals of making proper gains in the fight against the numbers who promote the divisive lies and falsities promulgated by the liberal agenda and progressive propaganda. I see great potential in the solution, the silver bullet, perhaps being found to come in the form of a massive, nation-wide, united force of properly motivated and energised women. I feel strongly that the mothers and daughters, aunts and grandmothers of our nation, with truth in hand, are most capable of achieving that goal of defeating the self-agrandizing, elitist miscreants in power and malevolent forces everywhere who seek only control, enslavement and misery for all inhabitants of this planet. Just my 2 cents…

Our President Trump is a good NRA supporter. He has a do nothing D.O.J. Jeff Sessions which is an anchor around the Presidents neck. He is just taking up space, he could get some of these politicians in line here in California and not let them defy the Constitution. To keep our gun rights we have to elect more Conservatives in office and I don’t mean John McCain type. As radical as the Democrats are you sure don’t want them in power again. Who is in power control a lot of our Constitutional rights and it’s hard to fight if the wrong people are in power.

  • Nick M February 3, 2018, 8:39 am

Paddock was a left wing anti-gun operative. This is why he removed his hard drive.

  • Jay February 3, 2018, 7:54 am

We are here talking about the 2nd amendment because of one thing and one thing only! Apathy, the state of lack of interest, concern and indifference in what matters most, our rights! Granted many of us were lulled into this state by being side tracked by trying to survive pay check to pay check. We allowed government to much control and now we are seeing the results. Government is a ever consuming black hole that has out grown it’s usefulness for the average citizen! Those in government have no idea what an average citizen is as they never were one! We need to take the money out of politics and vote in citizens not politicians!

  • pjw February 2, 2018, 3:10 pm

The office of the Chief Executive (President) has and will always be the last line of defense for the second amendment. Knowing that President Trump will not sign a bill that erodes the second amendment, is a significant point of political gamesmanship. The introduction of pro second amendment legislation comes from either the House or the Senate. We need to
motivate our members of the House and Senate to be proactive in firearms legislation that enhances and protects our rights to
    bear arms.

  • Brian Fletcher February 2, 2018, 12:21 pm

Trump, just like the NRA, hasn’t done a damn thing for the second class citizens of Kalifornia whose Second Amendment right has been trampled on for years by the leftists in Sacramento. Once again ALL the politicians in Washington have forgotten us and written us off as a “lost cause”!

    • deanbob February 2, 2018, 1:00 pm

If What would you expect Trump and or the NRA to do? While many judges in California regularly overstep their constitutional authority (IMHO), I believe very strongly in the 10th amendment. It provides each states a laboratory of liberty, where each and every citizen is free to choose a different laboratory that more closely fits his/her beliefs. Sometimes that means sacrificing to do so.

      • Jim Kaspar February 2, 2018, 9:40 pm

deanbob, the Pres isn’t responsible for the Sh**hole you live in. Get the other conservative voters together an vote the scum out. Im in Illinois, most of our politicians are such an embarrassment. Ee and you need to get them voted out.

      • Barkus Rudis February 3, 2018, 1:15 am

I would prefer that Kalifornia secede, as they are a Bolshevik led coalition, one socialist party with no opposition.

  • Kyle February 2, 2018, 11:50 am

Until the gun community makes noises like they’d vote democrat (and actually do it) the republicans will just take us for granted. Afterall, the dems aren’t going to do anything for us.

Trump can be pro-gun all he wants, but reciprocity has to come from the house and senate, and they could care less cause they know we will never vote liberal.

Much more important not to insult the hispanic base and get going on DACA for them. They dont want to lose the Hispanic vote.

  • Infidel762X51 February 2, 2018, 10:30 am

If so where is reciprocity and the hearing protection act? Move it rinos elections are this fall.

  • ras February 2, 2018, 9:50 am

I am a stanch supporter of President Trump, but from where I sit, there has been little success in reigning in the continuing march forward by the anti-2nd Amendment movement. Every day we experience more attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights. States like California, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and now once solid pro-gun states like Virginia, Florida, and New Hampshire, are under attack. We have several major pro-gun bills that with a Republican majority in the House, Senate and Whitehouse, should have passed easily. The SHARE Act, and Hearing Protection Act died on the vine. National reciprocity is a distant whimper that appears to have little to no chance of passing any time soon or ever. The Supreme Court, even with Trumps appointment of Neil Gorsuch remains hostile to any pro-2nd Amendment cases. Trump may have the best of intentions, but they still have yet to turn into qualified success after the fist year in office. Let’s be realistic. The day will come when the liberal Democrats will once again own the majority in Washington. If we have still not won the war protecting and preserving our 2nd Amendment rights, gun ownership as we know it will be a distant memory. A bell weather is the 2018 mid-terms. we must drain our federal and local swamps like our lives depend on it. Because it does!

    • deanbob February 2, 2018, 1:06 pm

I was a concerned Trump voter; but, banked on a conservative being nominated to SCOTUS. While I have been pleasantly surprised, I share your concerns about Trump, but more so the GOP inept leadership and all. At least much of the liberal progressive bovine excrement is being seen for exactly what it is. Could people be waking up?

    • Jim Kaspar February 2, 2018, 9:48 pm

Illinois Supreme Court bitch slapped the mayor of Chicago recently regarding ridiculous gun laws. It was so bad that the ultra liberal press couldn’t lie or twist the story enough to hide it. Things are changing a little.

  • joefoam February 2, 2018, 8:40 am

Piers, go back home if you don’t like it here. Our system of government has produced the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the planet. Why would you want to change anything?

    • Rangemaster11B February 2, 2018, 11:41 am

Subject people will never understand the rights of citizens.

  • Mark Schmidt February 2, 2018, 7:11 am

Fortunately the over educated snowflakes will be of the first to parish ( by their own ignorance ) if things go so south .. which of course they won’t due to orangeness ..

  • Z February 2, 2018, 4:45 am

Why he is even talking with that Communist Pawn ???

  • Gunflint01 February 2, 2018, 3:33 am

Fk Piers..Deport his English azz.. Who cares what he thinks.

  • Charles February 2, 2018, 3:23 am

Great for Trump! He gets the picture. Piers Morgan needs to crawl under a rock, and stay where he belongs.

  • SuperG February 1, 2018, 10:42 am

Trump should also take over the government of New Jersey and force new elections. The Constitution is being trampled there with reckless abandon.

    • Blue Dog February 1, 2018, 4:31 pm

How exactly would His Orangeness “take over” the government of New Jersey? The individual states are not subordinate subdivisions of the national government, far from it. The federal government draws its legitimacy and authority from two co-equal sources, the states that make up the union and the populations in those individual states – especially for one of the original 13 colonies! New Jersey is one of the original parties to the creation of the United States – taking over a state government like that is no different than invading a country. Have we fallen so far from the concept of federalism that people would think so little of replacing a state government, co-equal and separate from the federal government, over a few trivial issues? You, sir, advocate a renewed Civil War!

      • Mr. Scott February 2, 2018, 3:45 am

I think the easy answer that is so obviously clear to most that care about the direction this country is heading; is that a majority of state and federal government have abandoned their duty to follow the constitution and have infringed upon it in such a profound manner that constitutes tyranny. That much is clear. How to deal with such a runaway train of tyrannical and oppressive government is the big question. They have manipulated our systems, turned our press into a fourth branch of government, and polluted the courts with judicial offenders that have a disdain for the constitution. At least with Trump we get to kick the can down the road for a few years, but ultimately the domestic enemies of the People and the Constitution hiding within government will bite off more of our rights than they can chew. I think when that happens, whatever triggers it, it will stir up very violent civil discourse. That is unfortunate, because the failure of government will result and be held responsible for the unfathomable bloodshed and destruction. The Democratic party is a weapon of mass destruction. They never create anything good, only destroy. They want to tear down what this country was built upon and create another failed idea with great intentions. Aside from our foreign enemies, Democrats are the greatest threat to our liberty.

      • Jon February 2, 2018, 5:40 am

Trivial? Seriously? Let’s talk about California. It’s a sovereign state, but its AG just announced that any Californian who helps ICE do its job, will be prosecuted as a felon under California’s anti-Constitutional “sanctuary state” laws. They have, therefore, broken Federal law in the capital of the state. Is that trivial to you? And, it’s idiots like those in Sacramento that have more than infringed on our 2nd Amendment rights in that state.

If you want to come across as intelligent, stay away from the snarky “orangeness” type ad hominems. Perhaps you could buy a book that teaches the reader the proper etiquette of debate.

        • Kenneth Freed February 2, 2018, 8:05 am

Well said brother! Spot on! Liberalism is a mental disorder! Even Reagan said if fascism ever comes to America, it will come in the form of liberalism!

      • Gary February 2, 2018, 6:07 am

Dude, you know damn well what he’s saying. Don’t spin it like he’s some sort of Marxist trying to take over the government. I would never advocate for the president or anyone in the government to overstep their bounds. But at the same time I live in a state that has pretty decent gun laws (for now). It’s not right that states like New York can now arrest you, a law abiding citizen who has had handguns for years and never caused a aproblem, to suddenly have to report everything you own or become a criminal. It’s attempts like that that are trying to confiscate guns from the law abiding citizens and you and I know that’s the friggin truth. People are pissed. I’d be too. What else can they feel right now?

      • Leighton Elliott February 2, 2018, 10:24 am

The 2nd Amendment covers ALL 50 states and the ‘inalienable’ right SHALL NOT be infringed by ANYONE including a ANY State. There is NO reason nationwide that one legally armed in one State is a felon in another. The US Constitution TRUMPs any State Constitution, PERIOD!

      • Scott in Atlanta February 2, 2018, 10:28 am

The second word in your screen name is apt, for you are a cur, no doubt. Your snide reference to our president as “His Orangeness” is neither funny, cute, nor clever, and reveals a lot about you. Your little lecture about “co-equal sources” would’ve come in handy for years as your hero The Tiny Maggot Marxist made vast unconstitutional power grabs with nary a peep from adoring lefties like you. Double standard, mutt? And advocacy of a civil war is a specialty of you and your pals, your buds in Antifa, BLM, Occupy, Resist and Demonrat Party, of which you are so proud, I’m sure. How arrogant, smug and foolish of you to crow and preach to the patriots of this board, you smarmy little Marxist. Begone, and good riddance.

        • Maha February 2, 2018, 10:34 am

Bless your words and Americanism, sir. It was about what I wanted to say!

        • JoeUSooner February 2, 2018, 12:35 pm

Scott, if Blue Dog really is so enthusiastic about a Civil War… ask him what all those anti-2nd Amendment, anti-gun hoplophobes will bring… to the gunfight.

      • Maha February 2, 2018, 10:47 am

“Takeover?” Trump would do it just like his “Blackness” would have done! Pack the courts with sympathetic judges. He can endorse candidates who will fight the creeping far Leftism and Alinsky-ite political wranglings.
As far as Civil War, Obama shilled for the SJWs, Communist professors throughout our education system, the Islamists lying in wait in our towns, and encouraged social unrest across the entire nation. Every word out of his mouth was divisive, often racist, and showed disdain for the people of this nation. The recent behaviors on campus underline the actions of “civil” war, it comes from the Left, and it is anything but civil.
