ZEV FDP: Briefcase Gun Finally Launches! — SHOT Show 2026

in Mitchell Graf, SHOT Show 2026

The ZEV FDP Folding Defense Platform blends a folding 9mm chassis with ZEV internals in a compact defensive package built with Magpul. That folding design drives the story.

ZEV and Magpul quietly worked on the FDP concept for more than a decade, with ZEV stepping in during the final development push.

At SHOT Show 2026, the project finally enters production, with initial shipments now commencing. MSRP is set at $1,699.

MSRP is $1,699.

ZEV is releasing both a pistol and an SBR configuration. At launch, the SBR versions will hit first, followed by additional variants later. The FDP centers on a compact grip module that keeps the footprint short while still supporting extended magazines.

Folding Design and Handling

The FDP folds around the action to dramatically reduce overall length. That makes it easier to transport, store, or stage discreetly. When folded, the platform still accommodates larger magazines, including 27-round and even 33-round options.

Fully deployed FDB.

Flush-fit magazines hold 15 rounds, while the FDP ships with two 21-round Magpul PMAG GL9 magazines. Larger magazines can remain inserted when folded, though the 33-round mag requires a slight forward push to seat cleanly.

The ZEV FDP folds into a compact breifcase.

Configuration and Features

The FDP runs in 9mm and uses ZEV’s slide and internal components. Early production models ship with a non-threaded barrel. ZEV confirmed that threaded variants and standalone threaded barrels will follow and be available directly through its website.

A 1913 Picatinny rail supports optics and accessories. Adjustable iron sights sit inside the carry handle. Ambidextrous controls include a reversible magazine release and charging system, catering to left- and right-handed shooters.

First version of the FDP are not threaded, but suppressor ready version may be available down the road.

Use Case and Availability

ZEV positions the FDP as a defensive platform rather than a range novelty. Its compact size, magazine flexibility, and fast deployment make it suitable for vehicle carry, home defense, and duty-adjacent roles.

Each FDP ships with two 21-round magazines and custom laser-cut foam sized for a Pelican 1450 case. ZEV also offers a dedicated soft case through Overpass Bags.

After hands-on time, including full-auto demos, the FDP feels controllable and fast. It’s clearly built to be shot, not just folded and admired. Learn more HERE.

I’m sure this Zev piece is top quality but for literally one third the price the KelTec folding 9mm I own with a red dot goes nicely into a computer case and is invisible over my shoulder in public. Different strokes….

Ow, what an ugly and “desperate” thing. Unfortunately, we can’t stop those with too much and rather often useless imagination to express themselves, I have to say. If at least it looked like a real briefcase. Oh my … sometimes …
It’s a bit sad you took the time to write an article and skipped the time to post the video here. Nevertheless thank’s for sharing what you saw.

Years ago when I was into James Bond stuff I’d probably got one of these. Novel idea about like the submachine gun that was a fold up radio that was available back in the 90’s. They’ve done a good job in the design.

I had that radio and the James Bond briefcase toy from Goldfinger..best toys ever! I just don’t understand why one would want a bulky oversized handgun when you could just carry a real pistol. No carbine advantage without a longer barrel.

Why post your video to instagram rather than post it right here ? Many folks don’t have social media accounts .
