Description:
Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 16378xx, June 1943. This one has a rare Buffalo Arms barrel. Other components are a mix of SA and Italian parts. No import marks.
Overall this Garand is in good used condition. The receiver has some pitting, see notes below. This rifle is offered as a good shooter rather than a pristine collector’s item.
We test fired the Garand and it proved to be a good shooter in our 100 yard test, cycling through a full eight round clip with no issues, ejecting the clip at the end. Watch a video of our test firing on our YouTube channel, FernwoodArmoryTV.
Part Details:
-Receiver: marked “D 28291 27” on leg, heat lot 032. This receiver is not in the best cosmetic condition – it was pitted in places on the outside before it was refinished. The inside of the receiver, including all areas related to operation – bolt channels, sight base platform, follower grooves, clip latch cutout, and elevation/windage notches - are in perfect condition, probably due to being more lubricated than the outside. This is a “two-tone” receiver – from a WWII heat treatment of the receiver heel by being dipped in hot lead. This produces the dark appearance, which shows through any subsequent reparkerizing.
-Barrel: the only marking in the op rod cutout is an inverted “1”. The barrel is identified by the marking on top, covered by the rear handguard – “D-35448-22BA”. The bore is bright but used. Chrome pads at gas port. ME: 2 1/2,TE: 3 1/2
-Clip latch: appears to be a round front WWII type, unmarked
-Op rod: marked “D35382 SA.”. Parkerized finish in excellent condition, no pitting. Op rod and bolt cycle freely by tilting when everything is assembled except main spring and hammer
-Op rod catch: marked “PB”, Beretta

-Follower: late type, parkerized, unmarked
-Follower arm: no bevel, parkerized, marked “PB”, Beretta

-Extractor: blued, marked “BMB”, Breda
-Elevation knob: marked “PB”, Beretta
-Windage knob: marked with Weatherhead logo
-Rear sight base: late SA type, unmarked
-Rear sight cover: late type with ribs, marked “PB”, Beretta
-Rear sight aperture: HRA/SA type, double track, unmarked

-Gas cylinder lock: high hump grenade launcher type
-Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type, marked “HRA”

-Rear handguard: walnut, no cracks, has some dents
-Front handguard: walnut, no cracks, relatively few dings/scratches, nice appearance
