Its serial number prefix is UAA, probably dating it to 1996, the final year of production when the Maine plant switched over to the 22-A, which our photographer refers to as the Smith & Wesson High Point. This one has had moderate use, and its surface detractions consist principally in white streaking to the sharp edges of its alloy frame and barrel housing. There is a small amount of residue on the rear of the slide, and the exposed unblued area of the bolt has about 15 percent dark speckled toning. We rate this 422 as Very Good, close to Excellent, with 85 percent of its original finish remaining. It is excellent mechanically. Bore and chamber are bright, clean, and excellent. This 422 weighs in at just under 24 ounces, and it is most pleasant to shoot and carry. It has, in addition to its main safety, also a magazine safety; that is, it will not fire with the magazine removed.
