Charter Arms launched its first business some 50 years ago with credible lightweight pocket guns made along the lines of the Smith & Wesson J frame series. By our poor memory, the Charter Pathfinder series followed shortly after the introduction of Smith & Wesson’s 1977 Stainless Kit Gun, the classic model 63. Here is a credible descendant, the Charter Pathfinder chambered in .22 Long Rifle Caliber. Manufacturer, of course, is Charter Arms of Shelton, Connecticut. Type is single and double action revolver. Construction is stainless steel main frame and cylinder, solid stainless full lug steel barrel, NOT a shroud and liner, reminiscent of the High Standard Sentinel full lugs of the 1980s. Only the grip frame is white coated alloy. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle caliber ammunition. Grips are flat rubber Sile Combat type with factory Charter logo molded in the top area of the checkering. Sights are integral ramp front sight with low milled windage and elevation adjustable rear sight, black blade type. Trigger is satin stainless steel .310 smooth faced combat type with matching width short serrated spur hammer. Weight empty is 24.5 ounces, with the center of gravity just forward of the trigger. Double action trigger pull is heavy, 15 pound vicinity, but the single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 1/8 pounds with no felt creep. Photo specimen is one of only a handful that the Charter factory released as factory demos. Most likely, from its fired brass case dated from May of 2013, it was showgirls displayed at the NRA Convention in Houston, Texas. Never fired except at the factory’s initial test firing; never had a 4473 form executed. Cylinder rotation marking is negligible, no more than any of their brand new mates we’ve sold in the past. This Pathfinder shows faint buffing on the muzzle area, and faint amounts of buffing and scouring on the trigger guard. It comes in its original box with all its papers, lock, and never executed factory registration card. Replacement pricing on a Smith & Wesson Kit Gun is in the $700 - $800 range.
