From its VS 280000 range serial number, this specimen of Weatherby’s Vanguard VGS was manufactured in 2006 or 2007. It comes to us from its only consumer owner. Manufacturer was Howa Machinery Company Ltd of Kiyosu, Japan. Importer was Weatherby Inc. of Paso Robles, CA, and receiver is so marked. Type is bolt action rifle, with internal magazine and steel pivoting floor plate. Barrel is 24 inch with 6 groove 1:10 rate of twist. Chambering is .300 Winchester Magnum caliber, capacity 3 + 1 rounds. Metal finish is matte blue, with white steel serrated bolt body. Stock is factory Howa, black graphite based synthetic. Length of pull measures 13 1/4 inches from the serrated face steel trigger to the end of the 1 inch factory recoil pad. Weight empty is 7 1/2 pounds. This Weatherby comes in its original box with its plastic wrapper and test target. Surface detractions are negligible to minimal; all we see is one tiny inconspicuous toned spot near the muzzle on the barrel surface and inconspicuous vertical streaks on the right side of the Buttstock area. Bolt handle is still encased in its original plastic. We rate this Vanguard as Excellent, perhaps Near Mint, 95 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Bolt face does not have any brass residue. Note the Weaver 35 and 36 bases; they bore a 3x9x40 Nikon Scope. We do not believe this rifle has been fired over 20 times. Replacement pricing on a current production descendant VDT Vanguard is upwards of $700 in our area. We’re offering the Vanguard VGS in the photos, however, for only $ 459.00.
