This is one of the 76,689 "rod bayonet" .30-M1903 rifles manufactured by Springfield in 1904. As you know, Teddy Roosevelt halted production to change the "useless" rod bayonet and to re-chamber them in .30-06. There were also other alterations such as shortening, changing sights and stamping barrels. This rifle is in very good condition. The previous owner went into a nursing home, and the family wanted the guns gone. The barrel is stamped SA 05, and the buttplate is period correct. Unfortunately, some time ago, the stock was sanded and refinished. There are no cartouches. I never got a leather sling or tools for the rifle. If you would like additional photos, I can email them.
