From its 3,570,000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1972, among the final run of 64A rifles. Manufacturer was Winchester Repeating Arms of New Haven, CT, and barrel is marked – Winchester - / Model 64A – 30-30 Win. / Made in New Haven, Conn. USA - Winchester Proof Steel. Construction is all steel metal parts, including its milled steel shell carrier. Forend and Buttstock are American Walnut, with a buttstock length of pull at 13 1/4 inches from the .300 beveled edge smooth face trigger to the end of the factory checkered surface polymer butt plate. Barrel is 24 inch with 1:12 six groove right hand rifling. Sights are screw on serrated ramp front with dovetailed beaded blade, and traditional semi buckhorn rear that is step adjustable for elevation and screw drift adjustable for windage. Magazine tube is half length steel, and holds 4 .30-30 Winchester caliber cartridges, so 4 + 1 total capacity. Hammer is traditional .370 serrated spur. Safety mechanism is lever safety, so that the trigger will not operate without a firm hold on the lever. Receiver is drilled on the left side to accommodate a side scope mount. Finish is matte black metal refinish. Walnut finish is lightly sanded natural. Note that the rear tang screw is replacement and slightly oversized. Surface detractions are moderate, principally the refinish to the metal parts, and occasional streaking and scouring to the walnut finish. We rate this Winchester as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this rifle was actually fired fewer than 200 times.
