S# K500383. Bbl. 2". According to Standard Catalogue of S&W by Supica & Nahas, this is an extremely rare military firearm that is too rare to estimate. Total of 15,205 were mfg. in 1962-63 with S# from K500001 to K515205. Most were destroyed by government in Brunswick, GA. Four are known to be archived in the Springfield Armory Museum (all 4 new in box). This gun has an adjustable rear sight which correctly goes to end of frame where it meets the base of the ramp front sight. Top of bbl., front sight, top strap & rear sight are matte finished like a Model 28. Backstrap marked "U. S." & is smooth rather than grooved. Grips are correct Magna style walnut with diamond centers with right grip numbered to gun. Side of frame & yoke have matching assembly number of 11604. Correctly fitted with standard trigger & hammer. CONDITION: overall near excellent & likely factory test fired only as evidenced by recoil shield. Hint of beginning drag line on cyl. Sm. wear mark on left side of trigger where it functions in frame. Top middle of backstrap has slight impact mark that does not affect bluing. Outside of trigger guard, front strap & back strap have some light pinprick oxidation; mostly on trigger guard (least noticeable on front strap). Top midpoint of right side of sight blade has sm. impact mark that does not affect finish. Very sm. finish loss on ejector rod from cycling & light thinning on very top of front sight.
