Here is one of Leupold’s best; and Leupold is the Best of the Best anyway. This is the Leupold Vari-X III series, 4 1/2 to 14 power variable with 40mm Objective Lens. Manufacturer is Leupold and Stevens of Beaverton, OR. Construction is one piece tube and objective bell, aircraft grade aluminum alloy with adjustable power eyepiece and 40mm wide angle objective lens assembly. All components are US made, including the multi coated lenses. Magnification, of course, is from 4 1/2 power all the way up to 14 power. Objective diameter measures 40mm. Eyepiece lens diameter is 43mm, with 4.4 to 3.7 inches of eye relief. Field of view at 100 meters is 19.9 feet on 4.5x, and 7.4 feet on 14x. Reticle is fine Duplex. Tube diameter is 1 inch. Windage and Elevation Adjustments are 1/4 minute, or quarter inch, click type, and this scope incorporates Leupold’s Custom Dial System, or CDS. The Leupold VX-3 with CDS, writes the factory, allows you to quickly dial your elevation to different sight-in ranges with a custom adjustment matched to your specific ballistics information. The CDS dials change out easily, allowing you flexibility with different loads, conditions and calibers. Every CDS dial features 1/4 - MOA click increment finger adjustments and no adjustment covers to lose, making the VX-3 even more accurate and rugged. Each scope comes with a “dummy” dial that will be used to sight the scope in, writes Mr. Gramza of Hunting Life Magazine. The customer calls the Leupold Custom Shop to order a dial that will be specific for the rifle the scope is mounted on. Leupold customer service will ask rifle caliber, elevation, temperature, bullet coefficient; don’t worry if you don’t know this, just tell them the brand of bullet; bullet weight, muzzle velocity, and sight in distance. This information is entered into Leupold’s system and a dial is laser engraved with distances that are ranged for the target. Purchasers of the VX-3 line of CDS scopes get one custom dial for free and for all other lines dials can be purchased for $59.99 each. Overall length of this scope is 12 1/2 inches, with 5 1/4 inches of 1 inch diameter main tube length, where the rings fit. Weight is 13.5 ounces, not including its rings. Photo specimen is one of only a handful that we bought from a Louisiana Dealer liquidation. It is the only specimen that has been opened, and it was only for its photo session.
