In competition with arch-rival Sturm Ruger, Smith & Wesson has added a lever safety as to its descendant of the Kel-Tec P3AT. Another design innovation is a frame mounted disassembly lever, and this .380 is easier to disassemble and clean than its competitors. Manufacturer is Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Bodyguard .380 is the named model, while numbered model is simply BG380. Note its slide contours; S&W has included the Bodyguard in its M&P class pistol now. Type is hammer fired full time double action semi-automatic pistol. The hammer does not stand in a cocked position for single action firing. Construction is black Melonite® coated steel slide, barrel, and internal parts assembled into a steel impregnated high impact polymer frame. Sights are black low profile dovetailed front and rear, ramp front with drift adjustable black rear. Extreme overall length is 5 1/8 inches. Maximum height is 4 1/8 inches from the top of the miniature Novak sight to the end of the finger rest magazine floorplate. Grip frame thickness is .777, and slide thickness is .800. Barrel length is 2 3/4 inches, the same as the revered Colt Mustang and its Sig Descendant. Trigger is .300 smooth faced polymer, and the pull measures 10 to 12 pound vicinity. Trigger travel distance is fully 7/8 inch. Weight empty is just under 12 ounces. Like its ancestors the P3AT and Ruger LCP, it comes with a total of TWO Magazines, one finger rest and one flat. Each magazine holds 6 rounds of .380 ACP caliber ammunition, 6+1 capacity. Photos show the first specimen we received of this innovative little pistol.
