Walther’s foray into the polymer handgun market began with its 99 series pistols in 1996, with a failing Interarms as exclusive Importer. Here is an early Smith & Wesson Import specimen of the P-990, with fired brass dated from 2002. We got this specific pistol new in 2006 after it sat in law enforcement distribution channels for 4 years, and sold it to a local civilian owner after the ban expired. The 990’s unique sear system allows a short, Quick-Action trigger pull that gauges in the 10 pound neighborhood. The entire pistol was manufactured by Walther; frame is is high impact polymer with sure-gripping serrations and textured contours. Frame has integral earlier period German scale slots for light accessory use. Sights are readily visible three-dot, low profile with windage adjustable rear. Slide is satin stainless with XSE type serrations fore and aft. Mechanism is locked breech type with internal firing pin block to guard against accidental discharge if the weapon is dropped. Manufactured by Smith & Wesson, the stainless barrel is 4 inch Service Size; extreme overall length is 7 inches; maximum height is 5 1/2 inches; maximum thickness is 1.15 inches at the disassembly bar, but the grip part of the frame is only 1 inch thick. Note the two extra replacement mainspring housings / backstrap parts that allow shooters to adjust the contour of the grip frame. This is an amazingly good feeling, well balanced 9mm pistol. It comes with its original total of two Law Enforcement marked 15 round blue steel bodied magazines. This pistol is in its original box with all its papers, cleaning rod, and even three replacement front sights. Surface detractions are negligible; we classify it as Near Mint in Box; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Replacement price on the presently produced descendants approach $800. We’re offering this pristine Walther 990, however, for only $ 439.00.
