Serial number 4340. Plant marked on top of barrel and Merwin & Bray, New York agent marked on side of barrel. This model is possibly the most popular of several loading systems designed to circumvent the Rollin White/S&W patent on rear loading, bored through cylinders, as used on their 1st Model pistols. The Plant revolver accepted cartridges from the front of the cylinder and was one of only a few made in a large caliber. Ultimately, the design was made obsolete by the expiration of the White patent. Metal parts are mostly a medium patina with some worn original finish. Wood grips are very good, with most of the original finish present, some of it being flaked off. Grips show average wear and use with a long, light crack on the left side.
