Description: From its career serving and protecting the good citizens of Ardmore, Oklahoma, comes this attractive old specimen of the Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece. From its K295000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1957, just prior to the factory issuing its siblings with stamped model 15 numbers. We got it from a Texas Collector, who had it transferred from its original owner officer. Manufacture took place in the relatively new Smith & Wesson factory on Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield, 9th year of production at that address, and the twelfth year of Mr. Hellstrom’s corporate presidency. Construction is entirely steel, four screw K frame, with the cylinder yoke’s locking screw conspicuous on the trigger guard face. Barrel is pin retained 4 inch standard weight with solid serrated rib that carries a ramp type serrated front sight, matched by the classic square based serrated top windage and elevation adjustable, black blade rear sight. Cylinder is flat faced six chamber, caliber is .38 Smith & Wesson Special. Grip frame is Medium, K Square Butt, serrated fore and aft. Grips are period diamond pattern walnut factory, and we think the right panel was replaced at some point, since the panels are not symmetrical. This is a traditional double- and single-action revolver with transfer bar safety device. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent. On a vveerrryyy sslloooww pull, the hammer travels two to five degrees after the cylinder times into place on four positions. On the other two positions, the cylinder times on the trigger pull. On a brisk normal cocking motion, the cylinder times correctly on all six in single action, but on two positions the hammer will cock before the cylinder times. Single action trigger pull is on its original crisp 3 3/4 pound setting, the way this revolver was issued, with no felt creep. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a tight .005, measured from the right side. Lateral play to the cylinder is moderate, 1mm by our estimate, both with the trigger relaxed and with it fully depressed. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is negligible, only a faint smooth place with no cutting at all. This revolver has not been fired very many times, and certainly not with +P ammunition. Surface detractions are moderate, with whitening on the sides of the barrel and cylinder, finish loss on the trigger guard and grip frame, and strap wear and freckling on the side plates. We estimate that 20 percent of the surface has etchy texture to the wear. We rate this K-38 as Good, 65 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright and clean. This is a good old honest 1957 Oklahoma Model K-38. We’re offering it for only $ 389.00. Definitely C&R Eligible, and transferable to civilian residents of California and the District of Colombia as such. Not transferable to unlicensed civilians in Massachusetts. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $15 lower 48; $40 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, USPS Priority, insured with Delivery Confirmation. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
