The factory introductory trailer to this nifty little .380 is short and sweet: German engineering delivers .380 power into an ambidextrous, lightweight, comfortable shooting pistol in nearly the same size as the popular Walther P22. It occurred to most of us, a few years ago when Walther introduced their excellent P-22 Pistols, that this frame could stand a .380 ACP round. The PK380, show here as the first specimen we've ever had or seen, is slightly larger, mostly in upper frame and slide width and height, but not much. Maximum slide thickness is 1.02 inches, not counting the disassembly bridge. Height from the top of the slide to the bottom of the picatinny rail area in front of the trigger guard is 1.45 inches, quite a bit more than the P-22. Maximum overall length, not counting the Commander type hammer spur, is 6 1/4 inches. Maximum height, from the end of the magazine finger rest to the top of the rear sight is 5 3/8 inches by our measurement. Barrel length is 3.6 inches. Action, of course, is single and double action semi-auto pistol, 8 + 1 capacity with single line magazine. The PK380 sports readily visible 3 dot sights like its smaller caliber ancestor, and the rear sight is drift adjustable for windage only. It has an ambidextrous main safety in addition to the firing pin safety, as well as an internal lock and key. Like the P-22, the safety lever disengages the firing pin, but the action will still work with the safety engaged; so if a person wants to decock the pistol midway through a firing session, the safety should be engaged and the hammer returned to rest position with the trigger, something that makes most of us cringe a bit. Like the P-22, there is no slide release except removing the magazine and returning the slide to rest after the pistol fires dry. It is furnished with one only stainless body magazine with very distinctive cartridge visibility slots. Finish is matte black slide with black polymer frame.
