Description: I have here a US Model 1870 Springfield rifle conversion. It appears to be a Bannerman 19th Century or some other conversion maker changing obsolete military fire arms. Lock plate is dated 1863, breachblock is 1870 and serial number is 32439. Barrel is shortened to 18" and has a small brass bead welded on for a front sight. Cleaning rod looks like a early flintlock or percussion type before 1855. I don't think this is an Indian modification. But I could be wrong. Remember Chief Sitting Bull turned in a flintlock cut down musket when he turned himself in the the army. I was cut down and not in good shape. The Indians were capable to rework firearms. They didn't have all the tools but could do many things.

I replaced the hinge pin, ejector, ejector spring, spindle, and the latch spring. Wood is solid and cracks. Bore is fine and could make a short range hunting gun. Caliber is 50/70. Cartouche is worn off.
