From a local estate a Hatfield full stock muzzle loading 36 cal. flintlock squirrel rifle including a letter of authenticity, owners manual and the original cloth sleeve with squirrel logo. This gun was made by my brother Ted Hatfield. He designed and made these rifles for nearly twenty years in St. Joseph Missouri. After selling the business in the 1990's he designed and started making Austin & Halleck muzzle loading bolt action rifles. After selling that business he worked as a outdoor writer and editor for several of the outdoor magazines. He currently lives in Turkey where he designed and is now producing the UTS (ultimate tactical shotgun). He was recently in town for his high school reunion and I had him look at this rifle. After looking it over he wrote the accompanying letter of authenticity. At the sale they said this gun was bought new but was never fired. They said this gun was kept in a safe and unfortunately received several dings from other guns in the safe (see photos). My brother was famous for the color he put in his case hardening and the lock plate has brilliant color. This 36 cal. rifle has double set triggers and the highly figured maple wood stock is what makes this gun a deluxe grade III gun (see photos). The browned 36" barrel has rear buck horn and silver front blade sights. Trigger guard, butt plate and thimbles are iron (see photos) my brother said he doesn't remembers the exact numbers but that there were very few 36 cal. flintlocks made with iron fixtures.
