General Specs: Colt, Year 1915, .38SPL, 32oz., 4 1/2" Barrel
Serial Number: 400134
What a fascinating gun! This Colt Special Army .38 Special was delivered to the Hellenic Army in the early years of the Great War. Serial numbered 400134, this Colt dates to 1915. It has the Proof mark of Major Gilbert H. Stuart, US Army Ordnance Inspector at the top of the left side frame near the hammer. The butt of the gun is marked with the Greek Letters Epsilon and Sigma (Greek Army)and the number-17217. The bore of the 4 ½” barrel shows a mirror finish, the cylinder locks up tight and the DA/SA trigger is a true smooth Colt trigger! The factory original finishes on the gun show 95% bluing with some holster and handling wear. What an interesting journey this Colt has taken, built in Hartford Connecticut, and then shipped to Greece, one can only guess how it came to be back in the States, but I’m sure it was an adventure! Thank you for looking at this intriguing and rare example.
