Here is an excellent replica of the classic Remington model 95 derringer, an American icon that went into production in the 1860s. From this one’s XX Italian date code, it was manufactured in 1964, five years into the popular US television series, Maverick® and clearly where it got its model name, after James Garner’s card-sharking, derringer-toting character. Manufacture was Aldo Uberti of Gardone, Italy. Importer was Intercontinental Arms of Culver City, CA. Type is rotary sear over-and-under Remington type two shot single action only derringer pistol. Construction is entirely steel, with color casehardened frame, white steel barrels, blued trigger, hammer, and levers, and walnut grip panels. Caliber is .38 Special and .357 Magnum interchangeably, and we do not recommend firing full house .357 Magnum Ammunition in this handgun. Barrels are 3 1/2 inches, with integral blade front and tang notch rear. Operators should always check the breech face for firing pin protrusion before loading or closing any derringer type pistol, regardless of whether it’s a Davis or a Bond Arms. Weight empty on this Uberti is 21 1/2 ounces, rather hefty. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive; case hardening is very dim. It shows faint amounts of toning on its frame. Wear is even, however, and this pistol is still very attractive. We rate it only as Good, perhaps Very Good, 70 percent vicinity but that is not the whole story.
