We have a unique Enfield rifle which was modified to be a line throwing gun. Soldiers or Sailors aboard vessels would use a line thrower to fire rope to secure another vessel. The rifle has deep dark wood with evidence of a previous stock disc which has been plugged on the right side of the butt stock. Large painted on L. T. letters are also visible. Rifle shows several small Arsenal repairs but otherwise there is no major damage or cracks. There are numerous dings and dents in the wood from handling as you would expect for this type of firearm. Metal shows thinning finish on the receiver and Bolt. Numbers matching on the receiver, bolt, stock , and nose cap. The rifles rear sight was removed as typical for most line throwing rifles to differentiate them from a standard firearm. There is even patina on all the metal surfaces including the rear sight area. This does not appear to be a sporterized job as there are no toolmarks evident. This rifle has been in this configuration for a very long time. The right side of the receiver is Mark GRI 1948 no 1 Mark 3 underneath a crown. The front nose cap does not have a provision for another swivel. It is possible this rifle was an earlier British gun that was sent to India and later rearsenaled. Bore shows strong rifling and has some shine to it. We believe that with some cleaning the barrel would look much nicer. This firearm transfers like any other gun and must go to a 01 or 03 FFL for transfer. A seldom seen in very interesting variant of the Lee-Enfield rifle. This would make an excellent addition to anyone's and field collection. As with any military surplus firearm we recommend it be inspection by a gunsmith prior to use or firing.
