This early model dates from before the First World War, and this and later models was the mainstay of the British Empire for decades. The original design, because in part of its simplicity, was a brutally rugged battlefield rifle, which was not only fast handling but incredibly reliable. This specimen is all matching numbers: receiver, under the rear sight, and on the nose cape. The bore and headspace are good, and there's no wear on the locking lugs. Despite its age, this rifle is in excellent condition and would be a proud addition to any collection. At one time, these Enfields were a dime-a-dozen. Now, collectible examples are becoming scarce. Although this rifle is beautifully restored, it would still make a great shooter if someone wanted to take it out to the range occasionally and shoot it.
