These highly respected rifles were built on German Mauser machinery after WW 2, and closely follow the German Mauser 98K pattern. The hand guard is fuller and surrounds the rear sight, whereas the 98K leaves the rear sight exposed. The bolt differs from the German original slightly in its dimensions, and additionally, in some cases but not in this one, has a flat on the bottom of the knob. It takes some of its cues from the Czech VZ 24 in that it shaves some off its overall length. These are great shooters as well as being reliable, durable, and simple. They are, in my opinion, nearly the equal of the German 98K. The shoot the 8mm cartridge from an internal 5-round magazine. The bolt is smooth, strong, and time-tested. And, as an added bonus, Brass Stacker makes a long eye-relief scope mount for these rifles so that a scope can be easily and securely mounted to the rifle for added accuracy. There are several reviews of the rifle (with a scope attached) on You Tube, and the overall evaluation was highly complementary. And remember: as with all military surplus stuff, it's cheap when it first get here, but very quickly starts getting more expensive. The 98K is very probably beyond the reach of the average military surplus enthusiast, but these rifles, which are almost the equal of the German original, are still within reach--now at least. And finally, the rifle comes with an original bayonet, at now extra cost.
