Description: This SKS has to be the most interesting rifle I have encountered in a long time. I have been researching this SKS for a solid week and the results are impressive. This 7.62X39 SKS was manufactured in 1965 (during the Vietnam war) by the Jianshe Armory in China under the direct supervision of the Russian military.(This is "NOT" a Norinco!)I have been told this is referred to as a CHI COM. This one is also equipped with a fiberglass or phenolic red “Jungle” stock. The Jungle stock is what makes this really interesting. Not only is the composition of the stock different but ,as shown in the picture, the rear sling mount is directly on the lower part of the stock. This, along with the spike style bayonet(1st used in 1965), indicates that this is the third design of the Jungle stock. The Jungle stock also seems to be a bit thinner than the wood stocks. There are many differing accounts of where the Jungle stock comes from. The account that seems to make the most sense is that for jungle warfare there were some Chinese SKS's made with synthetic stocks after it was discovered that the combination of jungle rot, worms, borers, etc, etc, was more than the wood stocks could stand. IMHO it would take some mighty hungry jungle rot organisms to eat a cosmoline-soaked SKS stock but apparently they were there. There is also some indication that hundreds of these were hidden around Saigon prior to it's fall for use by rebels and insurgents. After the war, they were sold all over the world. All of this makes for great reading, and there is no doubt to this rifle's origins and integrity, but I do not believe this is a milsurp, combat rifle. The overall condition shows very little wear from use. It also has a shallow, unreadable importers mark on the receiver. But make no mistake, this CHI COM rifle is original and rare. This is definitely a collector's item. Rifles like this are hard to find so don't pass this one up.
