This highly collectible Mauser was made shortly after the end of WW 11 on German machinery seized by the Yugoslavian government at the end of the war. The Yugo Mausers closely mimic the wartime German 98K's: there are minor differences between the two in the wood hand grip and bolt dimensions, but otherwise retain the renowned robustness and rock-solid reliability of the original Mauser design. The German 98k's are, sadly, virtually dried up from the surplus market now, but the Yugo equivalents occasionally show up--but rarely in this condition. These very desirable examples of old-world craftsmanship and timeless design surpass many modern counterparts. This rifle exhibits the best of the qualities that made Mauser the benchmark of military rifles around the world in the last century: polished bolt, bolt handle, safety, butt plate, and cocking piece; flawless walnut stock and handguard; unblemished, deep blue-black metal on barrel and receiver; and, finally, the stout 8mm Mauser chambering. Additionally, this rifle comes with an original equipment bayonet, scabbard, and frog (leather belt "holster"). Dimensions, performance, and design are virtually identical to the highly prized and much sought after German 98k. (And one last point: this rifle is just as it was when it came off the production line in 1948, and just as it was when it was carefully put away in storage for a "rainy day.)
