From a Nashville area collection comes this little used Remington 1100 LW20 Lightweight Auto. From its D W date code, it was manufactured in September of 1972. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, New York, part of a production run that lasted from 1970 until 1976 only, when Remington subbed the LT20 for this one. Type is gas operated semi automatic field shotgun. Construction is steel barrel, receiver, bolt, trigger, and internal parts with an alloy trigger group housing; and American Walnut stock and forend with white lined black polymer grip cap and butt plate. Chambering is 20 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only. A 3 inch shell will chamber, but will not eject. Barrel is 28 inch with 1 3/8 inch lug, smaller than its LT20 descendant. Choke is fixed modified, .595 internal muzzle diameter against .7195 outside diameter. Concentricity looks good to us, but muzzle photo should be sufficient for our shoppers to judge with an eye toward installing choke tubes. Sight system is an 11 post, .310 ventilated rib with threaded stainless bead front sight. Rib sits .172 above the barrel at midsection. Magazine has its original spring retainer and period new green plasted 2 shot adapter, so magazine capacity is 2 + 1, or 4 + 1 with the green adapter removed. Shell carrier is chrome release with blued steel; and bolt is engraved chrome plated. Trigger is .225 smooth faced blued steel, with right hand shooter safety behind it, pulls at 4 1/2 pounds with minimal felt creep and moderate overtravel. Buttstock is the standard 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 drop, with a very mild 1/2 inch right hand cant. This shotgun is Not southpaw friendly. Length of pull measures 13 7/8 inches. Weight empty is 7 pounds, 1 ounce with center of gravity at the bolt handle. Finish is bright blue barrel, matching machine engraved receiver, chrome bolt and release, and gloss black anodized trigger housing. Stock and forend are press checkered, DuPont RKW glossy walnut. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, edge wear to the bottom of the receiver and occasional scours on the buttstock. The white liners have attractive age yellowing. We rate this 1100 LW as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this Remington has been fired fewer than 500 times.
