The words Browning Hi-Power Compact in our title ought to be in quotation marks, because there is no such thing as a Browning Hi-Power Compact. A standard magazine for a Browning Hi-Power measures 4 1/4 inches at the center on its back side. In 1994, however, a certain notorious Federal Statute passed that made a modification necessary. Fabrique Nationale and subcontractor Mec-Gar solved the problem by making a shortened body to that venerable pistol’s magazine, that measured 3 1/2 inches on its back side center, and a polymer tailpiece completed the length requirements and added 1/8 inch for floorplate space around the pistol’s butt of its grip frame. Ten Years later, the sunset of that federal law saw FN affiliate Browning Arms refilling its stock pistols with standard thirteen round magazines, and pulling out the tens and cancelling orders from the Italian subcontractor. At some point, and for some reason, Mec-Gar simply fitted a finger rest floor plate to the 3 1/2 inch steel bodies. We were among a good many buyers who bought some of those magazines, and we sat on them until recently, when we were able to obtain a limited quantity of the correct floorplates in an old Southern Warehouse. So, if any of our shoppers have any of those alleged Hi-Power Compact Magazines, you need these pieces; otherwise, you can fill your magazine with sand or other heavy ballast and try to use if for a fish sinker; or you can use it perhaps as a cookie dough nozzle and make cartridge follower shaped croissants. We’ll trade one of our tail pieces for two of your magazines, so long as you have 12 or more; or we’ll buy your useless magazines for $5 apiece. Our Single Tail Piece or Floorplate Price is $15, but we have a separate ad for Single Magazine buyers. We’re offering these six at a time, however, for the wholesale level price of only $6.50 each.
