Description: The unequaled popularity of the Remington 1100 Shotgun gave rise to an economy version by its 20th anniversary. Chain stores began selling the Sportsman Series, a name that graced a good many previous models. Both the 1100 and the 870 issued with Sportsman 12 stamped on their receivers. Here is the Semi Auto. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, New York. From its KF barrel code, it left Ilion in May 1985. Type is gas operated semi automatic field shotgun. Construction is steel metal, only with an alloy trigger group housing. Stock and forend are American Hardwood, stained birchwood. Barrel is 28 inch with .706 Modified muzzle diameter fixed choke. Sight is 13 post, .375 Ventilated Rib with front screw in bead sight. Magazine is steel, threaded, and holds 4 rounds of 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge shells, so 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity on 2 3/4 inch. It will chamber a 3 inch shell but will not eject the hull. Smooth face blue steel .230 trigger pulls at 4 1/4 pounds with minimal felt creep and moderate overtravel. Buttstock is standard field type for right hand shooter, 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb and 2 1/2 inch at the butt. Right hand cant is over 1 inch, so this will not be a southpaw friendly shotgun. Length of pull is 14 inches. Safety is right hand shooter type, behind the trigger. Weight empty is 8 pounds 3 ounces with center of gravity at the breech face. Overall length is 48 inches. Finish is brushed surface blued with semi gloss stained wood. Shell carrier is re-chrome. Surface detractions on this shotgun are moderate, with finish freckling, edge whitening along the rib, edge wear on the receiver, principally at its bottom. Note the dimple in the rib near the front sight. It is correctable. Forend and buttstock have moderate surface scouring, with a moderate amount of weathering near the butt, and this is common on 1100s. We rate this Sportsman 12 as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, gas port, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this shotgun was fired fewer than 1500 times in its career, no rounds at all for an all steel Browning design shotgun. Replacement pricing on a Browning Auto Five type shotgun often runs into four figures. We're offering the December 1941 Remington Sportsman in the photos, however, for only $ 439.00. Any ammunition or personnel in photos are Not included.
