Marlin 1893 undocumented Deluxe 32-40 caliber c1906 PRICE REDUCED
This is an auction for a undocumented Marlin Deluxe Model 1893 Lever Action Rifle in 32-40 caliber. The serial number is 347620 and according to serialization records was made in 1906. The stocks of this particular 1893 Marlin is loaded with sophisticated checking and craving. The “Cody Firearms Museum" (see letter of e-mail) does not have any manufacturing records on file for this serial number. Although this rifle appears to be all original, one would question whether it was indeed so without documentation. I am not familiar with the various factory pattern used by Marlin in their early nineteen century work so I did some research and found Marlin would often manufacture Rifles to a customer’s wants and designs. I did review a reference “Marlin Firearms: A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them By William S. Brophy” pages 196-201; 240 which showed what appears to me to be the exact checkering/craving pattern found on this rifle. I have seen a lot of home made checkering jobs over the years and this is not one of them in my opinion. This rifle has an 26 inch Octagonal Barrel with full magazine. This example is Mounted with nicely figured checkered American walnut with checkered serpentine pistol grip stock where the real beauty is hidden under the 100+ years of aging finish. A high percentage of the original blue finish on the barrel and magazine tube remains with some tough up. The evident of original case colors can be seen on the receiver, lever, hammer, nose piece and buttplate but the bright colors have faded. The wood to metal fit is excellent all the way around. You will find the usual wear on the wood and the metal, but not much. The action is smooth and tight and functions perfectly. The stocks are good to very good having normal wear with a few very small bruises as seen in the photos. There are no splits, repairs or cracks. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The action functions perfectly. 13 3/16" LOP over a crescent steel butt plate. This rarely encountered interesting and unusual gun would be a great addition to any Marlin collection.
