Description: This listing is for the exact revolver in the photos. From Air Force security duty in the Caribbean comes this serviceable and historic Service Revolver. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Named model is .38 Military & Police Airweight. The 12 was a descendant of the M13 Aircrewman. Numbered model is 12, Second Engineering Change. From its D660000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1974. Type is traditional swingout double and single action service revolver with transfer bar safety mechanism. Frame is lightweight K Medium Round Butt. Construction is steel barrel, cylinder assembly yoke, latch, hammer, trigger, and internal parts built into a lightweight alloy frame. Barrel is original tapered 2 inch Pencil type, pinned into the frame, with 1:18.75 five groove right hand rifling. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special caliber. This revolver was NOT designed for +P ammunition. Cylinder Capacity is six rounds. Sight is barrel integral serrated ramp front, with fixed notch frame integral rear. Cylinder release thumb latch is classic checkered serration concave. Ignition is hammer nose type firing pin on a .265 service width hammer, with matching serrated face service trigger. Markings are .38 S&W Spl. right side of barrel, Smith & Wesson on the left side, standard Trade mark logo with Reg. U.S. Pat. Ofc. on the side plate, and Made in U.S.A. / Marcas Registradas / Smith & Wesson / Springfield, Mass. on the frame right side. Yoke number is 64000 range with armorer stamp and matching number on the grip frame; Mod. 12-2 inside the frame opposite the yoke, with no serialization inside or on the rear cylinder face. Grips are magna service size panels. Dimensions are 7 inches overall length, 5 inches height, and 1.425 cylinder thickness. Weight empty is 18 1/2 ounces, centered at the trigger. Finish is polished surface blued barrel and cylinder assembly; gloss black anodized frame; color casehardened hammer and trigger; and magna service type walnut factory grip panels. Surface detractions are moderate, pincipally four rack streaks on the left side of the frame and over one cylinder chamber. Apart from those, it has occasional freckling here and there. We rate this model 12 as Very Good condition, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent 11 pounds vicinity. Single action trigger pull measures a crisp original 3 1/2 pounds. Hammer travels fully 10 degrees on all six positions after the cylinder times on double action; and 25 degrees on single action. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed, there is no lateral play whatsoever. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .005. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright and clean. We estimate this 12 has been fired fewer than 50 times, none of it with +P. Original M13 Aircrewman revolvers command prices upwards of $4,000 apiece. We’re offering the descendant Smith & Wesson Nickel 2 inch Barrel 12-2 in the photos, however, for only $ 439.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California or Massachusetts. Any ammunition or personnel showing in our photos are Not included.
