Description: From security duty in the Caribbean comes this attractive Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police, numbered model 10, Sixth Engineering Change. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson, 2100 Roosevelt Ave., Springfield, MA. From its 3D06000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1979, under Bangor Punta Corporate Ownership. Type is traditional double and single action medium frame revolver. Construction is entirely steel metal with original factory service sized magna style grips. Frame is K medium sized, with square butt grip frame. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special caliber, acceptable for firing +P loads. Barrel is 4inch Heavy type, pinned into the frame. Sights are barrel integral serrated blade front with frame integral fixed notch rear. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds. Trigger is .265 serrated face, with matching serrated spur hammer. Safety system is internal transfer bar. Dimensions are 1.46inches cylinder thickness; 9 inches overall length; 4 3/4 inches height; weight 29 ounces empty with center of gravity at the trigger. Trigger pulls at 11 pounds vicinity double action, with 10 degrees additional hammer travel after the cylinder times. On single action, the hammer travels 15 degrees after the cylinder times, and single action trigger pull is a crisp and original 4 4/8 pounds. Lateral cylinder play is negligible with the trigger relaxed, but with the trigger fully depressed, there is no lateral play whatsoever. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .006.Carbon deposits under the top strap and on the cylinder face are minimal. This revolver served in the Caribbean home jurisdiction of Borinquen Air Station, with its mission of guarding aircraft, boats, and surveillance equipment aimed at Castro’s Cuba and at South- and Central American drug traffickers. We estimate it was actually fired fewer than 100 times. Bore and cylinder chambers are all bright and clean. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with matte sight area, and color casehardened trigger and hammer. Grips are correct oil finish. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate, principally an etchy freckled spot on the trigger guard, a few more small finish freckles, and faint wear to the grips. We rate this4 inch 10 as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
