This vest pocket, with early serial number (0838) possibly produced 1875 or earlier. Made by Iver Johnson Arms for the concealed carry market. These were carried by men in their vest pockets, and sometimes by women in their hand muffs. Considered a very rare piece in today's collector's market. Caliber is 22 short, barrel locks in position when closed, hammer half cock works well, however full cock will require a minor spring adjustment, which should be done by a gunsmith or a very handy individual if desired. Overall length of the barrel is 2 inches, total overall length of the derringer is 3-1/2 inches, and 3/8 inch wide across the mid section of the pistol, with ¾ inch width at the base of the walnut grips.
