The barrel is maker stamped "A. Gumpf Lancaster." At the sale they said Andrew Gumpf worked as a gunsmith in Lancaster County Pa. from 1829 to 1849. The tiger stripe maple stock is nice with no cracks or chips and has a very thin profile and a checkered diamond section wrist (see photos). The stock has a four piece, pierced, patch box and a German silver rectangular plaque inlaid in the cheek piece. The metal finish is a mottled brown patina with some oxidation (see photos). The gun is 57" over all length with a 42 1/2" octagon barrel (What I can see of the bore looks dark....I have not cleaned this gun). There is a fixed rear sight and a blade front sight. The brass crescent butt plate, patch box, trigger guard, side plate, thimbles and nose cap have a mellow unpolished patina. The percussion lock plate has some engraving and is stamped "M. MASLIN / WARRANTED." The trigger and lock function as they should including half cock (see photos). The wooden ram rod matches the gun. At the sale they said this gun has been in a collection for a long time.
