Description:

Note that this is an 1893, not an 1897. Serial # is B29126. There are not a lot of these around. They were designed for 2.5” black powder shells. The 1893 only had a 4 year run and then in order to keep up with competitors switching to 2.75” smokeless shells they had to introduce the 1897 model. The appearance and operation is generally the same. Options in general were the same. This one has the 30” barrel. The wood and bluing have been refinished and it’s pretty good work. The rear stock is serviceable, it has a small area that was repaired as a wood patch and was very competently done. There is short thin tight crack in the top of the grip area that’s been stable through the 10 rounds I’ve put through the gun. There is a very small piece of wood missing from the left side of the trigger guard area. There are a couple very small chips of wood missing along the buttplate. Handling marks are few and there is only one that is immediately noticeable, but it is still minor as it is only a quarter inch long. The corncob would be in excellent condition except for a crack that developed at the left side retaining screw. It’s holding together so far so I don’t know if it will be a problem down the road or not, All the metal is in great shape. The only outer pitting I can find is some spots on the bottom of the loader/ejector area. The magazine tube does have one small dent in it the size of a BB but it isn’t big enough to affect the loading or unloading of the shells. As is typical to these older black powder guns, a former owner let it set too long without cleaning the barrel and there is surface pitting throughout the bore. I had a gunsmith do some surface honing, and then run a magnifying video scope through the length for inspection. He says the pits aren't deep and the barrel is still good. So I’ve taken it out to the range and had a blast confidently putting some black powder loads from Buffalo Arms through it. In short, it’s not pristine, but still in presentable and usable condition for a 130 year old gun. There’s a neat Midway USA video on the net about these. It’s 12 years old and shows the value on these guns at $1500 clear back then. I’m gradually selling off my collection, and this one isn’t perfect, but neither is the one in the Midway USA video. I’m willing to take a lot less but my price is firm. I will provide several high-res photos and a short video clip of it in use to a SERIOUS buyer. I am not a dealer. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK PURCHASE until you have contacted me and we have worked out all the details involved in the selling/purchasing/shipping/transfer of this firearm.
