Sig introduced its 552 rifle to give us, as the factory puts it, The performance of the Sig556 but in an affordable 22 LR with the Sig 522 Semi-automatic rifle. It features, they continue, a Swiss type NATO or OD Green folding stock and polymer forend on a durable black matte finished metal receiver with integral picatinny rail, and a classic military style platform. Photos show the first specimen we’ve been able to get of this fine little rifle. Factory Code is SIG522002. Type is semi-automatic blowback action; barrel length is 17 1/2 inches including the cage type muzzlebrake. Overall length is 34 3/4 inches with the stock extended, but only 25 inches with the buttstock folded to the side. The muzzle brake, then, is a very essential part of the rifle and is not removable. Weight empty is only 6 pounds 4 ounces, including the factory Sig clear polymer 30 round magazine. Normal replacement pricing on these seems to be upwards of $600 apiece in our area, and we haven’t heard of any of our local competitors even having any. We’re offering the Sig 522 OD in the photo, however, or one of its identical mates, for only $ 389.00. Not transferable to civilians in any jurisdiction where muzzle brakes, pistol grips, folding stocks, or any two language, are restricted to law enforcement; magazine cannot go to a good many jurisdictions either for civilian buyers.
