Here is a classic from James River Armory, the BM59 Beretta, the Italian parallel to our M14. Principal parts manufacturer was Pietro Beretta S.A. of Gardone, Italy. Secondary parts manufacturer was the US Government and its contractors. Barrel Manufacturer was Bula Defense of Cleveland, OH. Receiver manufacturer and final manufacturer and warrantor is James River Armory of Burgaw, NC. Type is Garand design, gas operated semi automatic rifle. Construction is steel metal, alloy bipod, American Walnut stock and handguard, and rubber recoil pad. Chambering is 7.62x51mm NATO, 147 grain M80 ball ammunition only. This rifle is NOT compatible with commercial production .308 Winchester ammunition, or any other ammunition besides 147 grain M80 ball. Barrel is 21.25 inch GI length, 1/4 by 28 threaded, with perforated and slotted muzzle brake that is attached via crush washer, and that brings total barrel length out to 23 1/2 inches. Note the M8 bayonet or accessory lug. Muzzle is snap ring equipped for a grenade launcher. Bore is chrome lined 6 groove right hand 1:10 rifling. Front sight is modified Garand type detachable and hood protected. Launcher sight is attached to the front gas assembly, as well as the Integral 12 1/2 inch bipod. Rear sight is Garand type windage and elevation adjustable aperture or peep. The BM59 will Not accommodate an M14 scope mount; that task will require gunsmithing. Magazine is Beretta Pre-Ban steel 20 round detachable, similar to but Not interchangeable with any M14 magazines. Trigger is .215 smooth faced steel, photo specimen pulled two stage at 7 pounds with moderate felt creep and overtravel. Safety is Garand type forward mounted. Weight empty is 10 pounds 9 ounces, centered at the chamber mouth. Overall length is 43 inches. Stock drop from line of sight is 2 1/2 inches at the comb, and 2 3/4 inches at the heel, with a 3/4 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 13 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 1 inch Italian recoil pad. Finish is parkerized main, black matte forward barrel, and black anodized bipod. Walnut has a plain oil finish. Surface detractions are minimal, only occasional residuals from the manufacturing and finishing process. Magazine will show use. Each BM59 comes in its padded plastic Plano gun case with rachet chamber brush, Ammunition warning flyer, instruction manual, factory notes on stock age and maintenance, and a total of One magazine.
