Mossberg & Sons, New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Type is pump or slide action shotgun designed for rifled slugs. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, bolt, internal parts, and trigger, fitted in a light weight alloy frame. Barrel is 24 inch fully rifled bore, six groove 1:36 right hand twist. Barrel has 16 ports arrayed near the muzzle for reduction of felt recoil. Chambering is 20 gauge, 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch interchangeably. It will cycle any type of shotshell, but it will only pattern correctly with rifled slugs. Sight system is a 6 slot Weaver type Cantilever Optics base welded to the barrel, with 2 1/2 inch to 5 3/4 inch slot spread. Magazine holds 5 each 2 3/4 inch shells, or 4 each 3 inch shells, so 5+1 capacity on 2 3/4 inch. Alloy receiver is drilled at four points for a number 80 Weaver base, or identically spaced Picatinny rail, if the owner wants to install another barrel. Safety is classic Mossberg tang mounted, southpaw friendly on its own, but the 3/4 inch right hand cant of the buttstock conspires against left hand shooters. Length of pull is 11 7/8 inches from the smooth face of the smooth steel .275 steel trigger to the end of the factory 7/8 inch recoil pad. Forend is positioned 2 inches nearer the receiver than a standard 500, for short armed operators. Stock and forend are graphite based polymer. Weight empty is 5 pounds 10 ounces, with center of gravity 1/2 inch forward of the receiver. This Slugster comes to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. It likely served light duty with Mossberg’s sales reps and writers. It has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of handling wear or sticker stain, really no more than one commonly sees on many brand new guns on display in stores across the country. We rate this Mossberg as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
