Description: Here we have a nice German Mauser K98 Steyer BNZ 44 Large Letter SS contract rifle. It has been verified that the Large letter BNZ rifles were made as SS contract rifles and were not death head proof marked. These were still made at the Steyer factory in Austria and were not marked as bnz like the normal line rifles for the Heer and other services. Single rune rifles were made with slave labor in Mauthausen and are also well documented. This rifle is in as found condition. It was purchased at an estate sale several years ago and has been in my collection ever since. It is non import marked. Very few parts are actually numbered which was shown to be correct on many of these late war rifles. The receiver is numbered as is the bolt which don't match as is common with vet bring back rifles. The bolt matches itself of course. The trigger guard and floor plate are not numbered. The upper bands are not numbered either. The but plate is marked BPR 40 and has a clear proof mark. I expect this was replaced somewhere during the late war or could have been in a stock of parts that was laying around the factory in late 1944. The stock looks to have been refinished.
