Description: This is a Rock Island 1903 that looks like it went through rearsenal and was put away. The serial number is 285630 which dates to 1918. The barrel is stamped 10-18 and has the appropriate RIA with flame/bomb. From my research Rock Island started the double heat treat at 285507 so this rifle is in the "safe to shoot" range.

The metal, including the smooth butt plate, is a nice Grey park without any scratches. There are a few small rubs from handling. There is one small ding on the left side of the barrel just below the rear sight. It had to be there when the gun was overhauled because the park is in the ding which I show in a close up picture. There appears to be a few small spots of old cosmo on some of the metal. The serrations on the trigger are sharp as the day they were made. The floor plate has a few marks under the park near the front screw. The metal is Grey and the screws look blued. All the screws anywhere on the gun look like they have never been turned.

The bolt has a matt finish showing a shiny line on the outside of the blued extractor. It does have SA (springfield?) stamped on the underside of the handle. The flat on the top of the handle is stamped H0 22. The front receiver ring has the small hole on the right and a larger one on the left. The rear sight looks as though it was never moved. The bore is shiny with strong lands/grooves..The front end metal, including the stacking swivel, is 98% with a circle P stamped on the left side of the sight guard. The muzzle still has park on it. The front band is stamped with a U and has a few shiny spots on the edge. The wood is also in terrific condition. There are a few older marks which can be seen in the pictures and a very, very light pressure dent below the bolt on the right side. There are 2 boxed cartouches, JEC and DAL. I researched the cartouches and they both correspond to SA but the posted listing stated that one could have been the original RIA cartouche. ?? There is a circled "script" P behind the trigger guard along with a small stamped 29. The wood has the desirable red hue to it and looks terrific. There is an original nickel cleaning kit with the brush/cord inside. Attached is the original leather HOYT sling stamped 1918 JJM. This is one of the nicest 1903's that I have seen anywhere on the net. I will be more than happy to send all the pics to anyone that desires them. Please send your email when requesting them.
