This pre-WWII 1938 Colt 1911A1 was refurbished through the Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, Alabama [See "AN" left receiver]. In 1938, Colt manufactured 1250 1911A1 pistols. During WWI, Savage obtained a contract for 100K pistols but did not produce more than a few thousand slides and small parts during the 3-4 months of production in the new San Diego facility and then production ceased. The slides were originally blue. The receiver and slide of this pistol appear to have the characteristic armory reblue finish and are consistent in color. The slide and receiver are matched properly with smooth action. The Savage slide is properly dated for the 1918 WWI production period. See photos of this and Savage proof on left of slide. The barrel is average condition with strong lands. It is properly marked for the 1938 date with "Colt 45 auto" and "P" on left leg. The mag. is marked "R" [Risdon WWII proper for frame]. The main spring housing is WWI, the pin appears to be a rare type 1 [early WWI Colt] but the remainder of the small parts appear proper for the 1938 mfg. date: safety lock is proper 1918 type; Hammer is short pre 1918; Spring housing is flat 1911 type; Transition number 60 on right trigger guard; Recoil spring plug is property post 1913 with round indent; Front sight is property 1924-43 design; Rear sight is proper pre 1943 type. Slide lock is non-Colt and post 43 type. Recoil sprig is properly post 1915 type. Top of receiver has all of the proper provisional inspection marks and production order marks; top of receiver is "G" marked, for government, with circle around "RA" provisional mark. The inspection "H", for Fred Hauff appears with a firing proof "P" on left of frame. If interested, ask for more photos. I have several of the pistol.

LAYAWAY: If needed I offer a 60 lay-a-way option. It is 1/3 immediately, 1/3 in 30 days and 1/3 in 60 days. Lay-a-way Firearm sales are final. If you fail to close the deal I will hold funds until the firearm is sold. If the firearm is sold for less, the difference will be deducted from the deposit plus 10% for my time, storage and taking the firearm off the market for your lay-a-way period.
SHIPPING: All firearms shipped Priority Mail with insurance. Price stated is for the lower 48.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT- Modern firearms must be transferred through a licensed FFL dealer in Buyer's area. Buyer must supply to Seller a copy of Buyer's driver license and a copy of Buyer's local FFL dealer's license before shipment will be made. A C&R License is acceptable for C&R firearms. All handguns are shipped to an FFL.
SAFETY NOTICE- Buyer is solely responsible for determining that the firearm purchased is safe to shoot. By bidding, the buyer agrees to hold seller harmless against damages, injury, or death caused by buyer's failure to have the firearm properly inspected for safety.
RETURN POLICY- All firearms come with a 3-day return policy conditioned upon the firearm being returned in exactly the condition mailed- not being fired , messed with in any way. In the case of a return, buyer pays all shipping charges. FIREARM MUST REMAIN WITH THE FFL DURING THE INSPECTION PERIOD. IF FIRED, SALE IS FINAL.
