Fox AE 16ga. -ENGLISH STOCK, MILLLER SINGLE TRIGGER, RARE FIND!
In the world of vintage American double shotguns, English stocks are found on 10% of all guns made, mostly on higher grade, special order guns. Lower grade guns wearing straight stocks are rare. Add the option of a single selective trigger and you have found the "needle in the haystack". Those who prefer a single selective trigger know how impossible it can be to find on a Fox. Of all the single selective triggers, the Miller trigger is considered the best, most trouble free of them all. The best English makers used the Miller in their guns. This fine little Fox, sn303812 circa 1938, is in excellent original condition, handles perfectly between the hands, balances on the hinge pin and weighs in at 6lbs. 7oz.. Great dimensions and desirable features make this an excellent investment gun you can enjoy in the field and on the clays course. If you haven't noticed, these 16ga. ejector Fox guns (built on a 20ga. frame) in any kind of condition have all but disappeared from the market. No longer can you choose between a dozen or more fine Fox guns, as they are not being sold but kept for their fine handling and shooting characteristics. The values have soared and will continue to do so with only 2500 or so Fox A Grade 16ga. guns built, most without ejectors, almost none with single triggers.
The 26" #3 wt. barrels are in great shape with mirror bores, 93% factory blue, 2 3/4" chambers, bore diameter of .668 both barrels, minimum wall thickness 29 thou both barrels, choked LM/M (.014/.020, can be changed for $70 each), no dents or pits, ribs are tight, barrels really chime, double beads, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin.
The action has 30% case color, perfect screws, action tight, lever right of center, ejectors strong and well timed, Miller single selective trigger crisp with 4.75 lb. pull right, 4.5 lb. pull left, trigger guard 90% blue, engraving sharp and clear, mechanically excellent.
The factory English stock is in fine shape, no splits, cracks, or repairs, lots of factory finish, great checkering, LOP to rear position single trigger 13 3/4" from Silvers pad (equates to 14 1/2" LOP from front trigger of 2 trigger gun, not short compared to double trigger Fox), 2 1/2" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 3/16" cast off for awesome shooting dimensions, great wood to metal fit, just how you like to find them.
Look long at hard at all of the Fox guns available for sale. My guess is this is the only single selective trigger, English stocked Fox 16 gauge available for under $10,000. I am always searching and this is the first I have seen in over 5 years. And please, there is nothing wrong with Savage made Fox guns. As McIntosh says, you have to judge each gun on its own merits, Philly or Savage. The guns speak for themselves. The concept of owning a fine handling piece of American history that shoots better than modern guns, handles better than modern guns at twice the cost, AND CONTINUES TO GO UP IN VALUE AS YOU ENJOY IT USE is a foreign to many in the shooting fraternity. What a joy knowing you are not spending money when purchasing a fine Fox such as this, YOU ARE INVESTING IT WISELY. That is the way to do it!
