Description: . Rare Dardick Model 1500 Revolving Pistol .38 cal. Tround, 6" barrel with an excellent bore. This unique magazine fed revolving pistol retains about 97% factory blue and enamel finishes with high edge wear on the barrel, scratches below the ejection port and a very small chip of enamel on the frame. The checkered synthetic factory grip inserts with Dardick logo rate excellent but are drifting to various shades of purple. These pistols utilized an "open chamber" principle and fires special synthetic triangular shaped ammunition called "Trounds". The synthetic material used in the body of the Trounds was called "Fortiflex" and would expand to seal the open chamber on firing then relax to release its grip, similar to what a standard cartridge case does in a chamber, without the need for a conventional chamber. The pistol has double / single action capability and loads via a port on the left side covered with a spring-loaded door. This gun featured a fifteen-round capacity, serrated ramp front sight, a fully adjustable rear sight and a selector below the sight to switch from centerfire to rimfire. Using what the company called the "Switch Hitter Series" the basic model 1500 or 1100 could be converted to 22-caliber by changing the barrel and ammunition (utilizing regular rimfire ammunition in trounds) or to a rifle configuration by fitting the pistol receiver to a rifle conversion kit. It could also utilize regular 38 Special ammunition with a special "Tround" adapters. This gun includes an original Dardick box marked for a model 1100, (5) loaded .38 caliber Trounds, (3) expended .38 caliber Trounds, paperwork, a copy of an article by Frank Wheeler titled the "Cartridge Collector" appearing in the March 1959 magazine "The Gun Report" and an article by Shelley Braverman entitled "This Gun is Really Rare, The Dardick" but it doesn't provide a date or magazine origin. This last article is informative as it states only about 40 completed firearms were marketed during the five-year life of the company making them rare and desirable. Any student of small arms design, dedicated collector or afficianado or "cool" old stuff is going to love this gun.
