From its original home in Crockett County Tennessee comes this outstanding Colt Police Positive revolver. Crockett County had no railroad and no federal highways, so its principal cash industry was moonshining. This revolver related to that occupation. Manufacturer’s marking reads Colt’s Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co., Hartford, CT. USA, Pat’d Aug 5, 1884,June 5, 1900 July 4, 1905 Oct 5, 1926. Type is swingout cylinder single and double action revolver, with hammer nose ignition and transfer bar internal safety device. Construction is entirely steel metal, with original factory composite grips. Chambering is .38 S&W and .38 New Police interchangeably. This revolver will NOT chamber .38 Special ammunition. Barrel is 4 inch, with blade front sight and frame integral fixed notch rear. Frame is small pre-D type, with 6 shot cylinder capacity. Weight empty is 23 3/4 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Finish is entirely blued steel metal, with original white lateral hammer. Surface detractions are minimal, principally occasional inconspicuous finish freckling. We rate this Police Positive as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, 85 to 90 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap is minimal, only a faint etchy line. Carbon deposits on the cylinder face are minimal.
