Description: A very nice Model 106 in 98% + condition as to metal and wood. .22 caliber LR semi-automatic, 7 & 1/4" fluted barrel. This pistol is equipped with the hard to find and desirable “muzzle brake”. The bore is mint with no pitting, rusting or copper fouling. The checkered walnut grips are the target type with a thumb rest on the left side. The magazines are marked " High Standard" and have the correct red plastic bases (one magazine could use some tune-up as it refuses to properly feed Federal hollow points), the rear sight is adjustable. A good looking pistol that has seen little use. Made in 1967 or 1968. The trigger and the slide release appear to be case hardened or heat blued. The pistol has an overtravel stop and is adjustable. I found the following on various posts and blogs.

“All the 106s and 107s were target guns. They are usually found in excellent condition as target guns are generally only shot at the range and so don't have the kind of wear and tear you might expect for a field gun. They have excellent triggers and were very popular in the day, considered the equal of the Smith & Wesson 41 but costing less, and so were probably the most common pistols found on the firing line at Camp Perry. I recall reading some comments that the High Standards were also somewhat less finicky than the Smiths, but I can't say from personal experience. I have a Trophy 106 that I used to shoot in local target competitions and it was a much better gun than I was a shooter - not that that was hard to do! At least I could say with absolute confidence that the gun was not a limiting factor. A couple of High Standards were used by US shooters to win gold at the Olympics, so clearly world class target pistols.”

“These pistols were shipped with a muzzle brake and an extra magazine. They were produced with a highly polished finish which is often termed “superblue”. These are truly beautiful guns. The Trophy pistols were the top of the line in the series 102, 103, and 104 series. After production of the 104 Trophy ceased, a buyer could obtain a Trophy in the series 106 line. The series 106 Trophy pistols were also highly polished and are also desirable to collectors. The finish of the pistols gradually became less polished over the years during production of the series 107 and 108 pistols.” There are those that suggest that this pistol will shoot rings around the S&W Model 41 (I don’t believe it).
