Description: This is a late Model '92 or Model 53 which has had a Model 43 barrel in .218 Bee transplanted to it with the model barrel mark changed. The giveaway is the fact that the barrel is year stamped on the bottom with a number that could be confused to read "32" when it is actually "52". However, the Model 92 or Model 53 (serial #985713) is in good condition with a very good bore. The sight hood was removed from the two barrel pics but is on the gun. The fore stock is not quite beaver tailed, but a little thicker than a typical 1892 forearm. The butt stock is a typical Model 53 style.

It is just over 3000 serials later than one pictured in the Madis book, which was misleading (see page shot in pics). The last of the '92's were assembled at the end of WWII. The .218 Bee caliber was not formally offered until the after advent of the Model 65 in 1933 with the caliber added in 1936. There were reportedly some Models 53 special ordered in .218 Bee (standard calibers were .25-20, .32-20 and .44-40), and, possibly, a few later Models of 1892. Most Model 65 barrels in .218 bee would be year dated 37, 38. 39 or 40, so to have a 52 date on one would only mean it was originally a Model 43 barrel. That's what we know or guess at this point. For a parts gun it is a great shooter!
