From a Kansas Collection comes this attractive Colt Commemorative. This is Colt’s tribute to the Allied Soldiers in World War I on the 50th Anniversary of American Intervention. Right Side of Slide is marked, 1917 World War I Commemorative 1967. Left Grip panel is marked Meuse Argonne, for the final campaign of that conflict, and this pistol is serialized with a 6000 range, MA suffix number. Actual production of this piece was probably in 1968. Manufacturer was Colt’s Pt. F.A. mfg. Co. Hartford, Conn. U.S.A. and so marked. Type is 1911 Government Model semi automatic. Construction is entirely steel metal, with factory Walnut Grip Panels inlaid with bronze medallions. Slide and barrel are standard 5 inch 1911, with serrated rear laterals, stake on front sight and plain blue dovetailed rear sight. Trigger is .420 smooth face steel, with standard checkered serration spur hammer. Caliber is .45 ACP, and magazine is factory original 7 rounder. Mainspring housing is smooth steel. Weight empty is the normal 39 ounces. Surface detractions on this Commemorative are only moderate, principally a streak on the under side of the frame, and weathering and scouring to the right grip panel. Finish bears inconspicuous freckling on the upper left side of the hammer, and on a few places on the frame. We rate this Colt as Very Good, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. If this pistol has been fired, we estimate it was fewer than 50 times. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Replacement pricing on Colt Commemoratives often exceeds $2,000 apiece.
