We have an original model 1899 Krag carbine. Chambered in .30-40 krag. This is not a cutdown rifle. It is correctly marked model 1899 on the receiver. It also falls into the correct serial number range for a carbine. Correct front sight, correctly marked "C" carbine rear sight. Stock is well marked JSA 1901 which is also correct. The top hand guard does appear to be a replacement. Front stock ring is held in with a spring NOT a screw as seen on most fakes. Wood shows well, the buttstock does not appear to have been altered and is in it's original finish cartouche is clearly marked. There is some thinning of the bluing on the high points of the metal parts. Stampings on the receiver are clear. Bore has strong rifling with some shine. It appears to need some cleaning from long term storage. Bolt moves butter smooth as you would expect, trigger is crisp and operates as expected. Previous owner had this rifle in his collection for over 30-40 years. This rifle would make a fine addition to any collection.
