Smith & Wesson .38 Special Pre 1945 Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Pre-1945
Description: I have have received information on this revolver from Gun Values Board. They say is is a variation of the Victory Model from 1943. Their is a 6 on the top strap hat is actually a "flaming Bomb" ordnance mark. It has the initials GHD which ar those of Guy H. Drewry, who was the ordnance officer in charge of the Springfield District Ordnance Office during the war (It is and inspector stamp) It appears to be a export gun for Great Britain as it has 38 S&W CTG instead of 38 S&W Special on the barrel and the import stamp (IA CO SAC C) both point to a British Service Revolver (AKA BSR). After October 1940, nearly all BSR's had a 5 inch barrel, this one is 4 inch which is standard length for the Victory intended for the American military forces. It shows a "U.S. Property stamp which was on the U.S. Victory Model, but it also was used on the lend/lease BSR to indicate that the guns were "on loan" from the U.S. to the UK. They go onto say that This is a pretty nice example of the type, even though it does show some honest wear. More photos upon request.
