This is an early production Colt Service Model Ace with FACTORY checkered front strap. This pistol is the size and approximate weight of the full-size 1911A1 .45 automatic, but is chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. By use of the ingenious "floating chamber", the recoil of the little .22LR is amplified to more closely imitate that of the .45 ACP. This has the benefit of increasing functional reliability as well as providing more realistic "centerfire-like" practice. Lay-out is identical to that of the standard Colt 1911 in regards to safety, magazine release, slide lock, etc. Takedown is the almost exactly the same as well. This pistol is all original and in very good shape. The serial number is SM14XX with the slide properly serial numbered to match beneath the firing pin stop. It has the correct Stevens adjustable rear sight and tall serrated ramp front sight. The original pre-war blue finish rates about 98%+.. There is no pitting. The bullet ramp area of the frame in properly "in the white". The correct/original full checkered walnut grips are in excellent condition with only very light wear...no cracks or chips. The mechanics appear to be in perfect working order and the bore is excellent with bright, sharp rifling. One original Pre-War two-tone 10-shot magazine is included which is in very good condition. Lastly, a Colt factory letter accompanies the pistol which indicates it was shipped with FACTORY checkered front strap in 1939. This is a very nice, highly collectible Colt.
