This rifle appears to have been altered to some degree during its existence. The serial number on the bolt and receiver do not match. The serial number on the receiver does match the one on the barrel but has been lined out and replaced with ER over 5008. The barrel is 25 3/8 inches long and the bore is dark but has good lands and grooves. The rear volley sight is intact. The magazine cut off has been removed which is not uncommon and does not affect the safe operation of the rifle. The rear sight has both rough and fine adjustments for windage and elevation. The bolt has an unusual, cylindrical and moveable piece for insertion of a stripper clip. There is a small, approximately 3/8 inch diameter compass imbedded into the stock between the magazine opening and receiver. The top wood has been removed and slots for the spring clips filled. In any case, this would make an excellent light utility rifle or a parts source for restoration of another Sht LE.
