This rifle, to the best of our memory, came back into the United States some time in the 1980s when Century Arms’ buyers were locating some treasure troves in Europe. This is an authentic World War One U.S. Rifle, a 1917 Remington manufactured in their Eddystone Arsenal. Serial number is 11106xx, so we estimate this rifle was manufactured 1918 or later. It is the shorter variant, 23 inch barrel. The stock has been expertly arsenal refinished. Armorer’s cartouches are strong underneath, but weak on the stock’s right side. The latest refurbishers, by our estimate during WWII or a bit later, spliced two small blocks adjacent to one of the brass stock pins on the rifght side of the receiver, and beneath the rear swivel hardware. The sling is period, perhaps as late as WWII. Serial number suffix matches on the floorplate, but not on the bolt handle. Ordnance bombs on left side receiver and on bolt handle are somewhat dimmed, but still very much intact. Mechanism is Very Good to Excellent, but the bore only rates Good at best, since light pitting affects most of it. The rifling, however, is strong and well pronounced. Century Arms’s re-import stamp is on the lower right side of the exposed front barrel area. This is a very solid, very nice 1917. We have owned it for about 20 years.
